The soil in the vineyards of Châteauneuf-du-Pape is unique in that it contains rounded stones that absorb the warmth of the sun during the day and heat the vines’ roots during the night, which makes it ideal for viticulture.
The vines in these vineyards benefit from a great deal of exposure to the sun which is mainly due to the effect of the Mistral wind which lessens precipitation and the damage it can cause to the vines.
Though thirteen different varieties of grapes, including seven red varieties, are authorized for this appellation, only four will give a multitude of aromas and flavors to this Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
Grenache gives smoothness and richness, Cinsault fruit and freshness, while Syrah gives lovely length which is balanced by the tannins of the Mourvèdre grapes.
The cuvees have been selected to undergo meticulous work during the vinification and aging processes.
The fermentation of the grapes under monitored temperatures with daily pumping over as well as rack and return, followed by barrel aging which lends extra complexity to the wine.
